Hey guys, my name is Chris Kim and I’m the Business Manager for the Colgate Raider Pep Band. I’m currently a sophomore from Farmingdale which is in Long Island, New York. My main instrument is clarinet, but for Pep Band I play percussion and trombone. I plan on majoring in biochemistry and I am also premed. In addition to Pep Band, I am a CL, a clarinetist in the Colgate University Orchestra and an active member in the Grappling Club, which is an competitive mixed martial arts club on campus.
As the Business Manager, I handle all of the Pep Band’s finances and expenses. I keep track of band funds and organizes purchases such as merchandise, trips, equipment, and food. Additionally, I handle the copious amounts of paperwork for our band events and away trips. Ultimately, I do whatever I can to help the Director, Mary Festa, to keep the band running smoothly.
I was pretty involved in music in high school, but I was unsure whether or not music would fit into my busy schedule. Luckily, Pep Band is a student run organization that is very flexible with attendance to practices and games, which allows me to maintain all my responsibilities along with providing me an opportunity to be an active member of the Pep Band. Looking back at all that I have done here at Colgate, Pep Band made the majority of my free time, as I looked forward to playing with my friends at practices and events. Unexpectedly, Pep Band has provided me with my closest friends and I would say that it is one of the most tight-knit communities that Colgate has to offer. If you are on the fence whether or not the Pep Band is right for you like I was, you can always sign up and see for yourself, whether it be in band camp or even playing at a practice. I or any of the other officers would be happy to answer questions you might have, so feel free to email any one of us.
