Hey all, my name is Andrew Lapp and I’m one of the Equipment Managers for the Colgate Raider Pep Band. I’m currently a junior from Pulaski which is in northern New York. My main instrument is percussion, which is what I play in the band. I am majoring in physics and astronomy, and minoring in music. In addition to Pep Band, I am a drummer in the Colgate University Jazz Ensemble, and am employed by Colgate as a Student Auxiliary Safety Patrol Officer.
As the Business Manager, I handle all of the Pep Band’s finances and expenses. I keep track of band funds and organizes purchases such as merchandise, trips, equipment, and food. Additionally, I handle the copious amounts of paperwork for our band events and away trips. Ultimately, I do whatever I can to help the Director, Ryan Rios, to keep the band running smoothly.
I was very involved in music in high school and I knew I wanted to continue my music career in college, but I wasn’t sure how. Luckily, Pep Band was a very inviting group of students and after a few rehearsals I was confident this was something I’d want to devote a lot of my time to. Looking back at all that I have done here at Colgate, Pep Band accounted for the majority of my free time without becoming intrusive into my schedule, and I always looked forward to spending time with my friends at practices and events. Unexpectedly, Pep Band has provided me with my closest friends and I would say that it is one of the most tight-knit communities that Colgate has to offer. If you are on the fence whether or not the Pep Band is right for you, you can always sign up and see for yourself, whether it be in band camp or even at a practice. I or any of the other officers would be happy to answer any questions you might have, so feel free to email us.
