Hello! My name is David Elacqua, and I am the co-drum major of the Colgate Pep Band for the spring semester of 2020. I am from the city of Utica (about 40 minutes from Colgate), and I am a member of the sophomore class. I was the drum major during the 2019 calendar year, but before, I played the clarinet in the pep band. I am currently pursuing a double major in music and biology. In addition to Pep Band, I am a member of the Colgate University Orchestra, Symphonic Band, and Colgate Ballroom Dancers.
As a co-drum major, my job is to conduct our biweekly practices and make sure we sound great for our performances at sporting events. I also help to facilitate our pre-orientation program with the other officers. In high school, I was very involved with music. I played in my high school’s band as well as with the symphonic orchestra. I also played in my school’s pit orchestra for our annual musicals. In my high school band, we were required to play at football games and parades because we didn’t have a marching band. Although I wasn’t a big fan of the uniforms in hot weather, I really enjoyed playing music with my friends at these games and I knew that I wanted to continue this in college. Joining the Pep Band at Colgate gave me the opportunity to continue playing and has definitely been one of the best decisions that I’ve ever made. We are a very close-knit group, so many of my best friends on campus are people I met through Pep Band. If you have any questions about Pep Band or Colgate in general, please don’t hesitate to send me an email!
