Hey guys! My name is Lizzy Moore, and I’m the drum major of the Colgate Pep Band. I’m a sophomore from Cobleskill, NY (it’s in the middle of nowhere, lots of cows). I play the euphonium, but since I’m busy conducting, you unfortunately won’t get to hear my beautiful playing. I’m majoring in Peace and Conflict Studies. In addition to being the drum major, I’m an Alumni Memorial Scholar, I work as the Communications Intern for the Undergraduate Scholars Programs and as an Arabic tutor. I am also a CL in Ciccone Commons with our beautiful director, Mary!
As the drum major, I run and conduct our biweekly practices and make sure we sound our best for our performances at sporting events, which are also conducted by yours truly. I decide what music we play, and when we play it. Basically, I flap my arms around and everyone (hopefully) watches and follows my tempo. I also help out at band camp with all of the other officers.
I was really involved in music in high school. I was part of our general ensembles for band, orchestra (viola), and chorus, as well as our select choir and jazz band. Even though I was a part of a lot of ensembles, I was never very intense about being a musician. I just liked spending as much time as possible in our music wing, because it was a place to to de-stress and hang out with my friends. Joining the Pep Band at Colgate let me continue this attitude towards music, and was honestly one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I didn’t attend band camp my freshman summer, but the band was still super welcoming and accommodating to me at the beginning of the semester. 90% of my good friends at Colgate are people I met through band. It’s a really fun way to meet a group of truly wonderful people. Our members are at all different levels of musical ability, and we are really willing to help you out and make you feel comfortable. Please don’t hesitate to shoot me an email if you have any questions about anything, and go ahead and sign up on the recruiting page to become a member of the best group on campus!
